Cotswold Art Project


Tyndale Cluster: Eight 11-year-old pupils from Kingswood, North Nibley, Slimbridge and Stone with Woodford Primary schools have travelled to Brussels to take a first-hand lesson on European democracy, before returning to Gloucestershire to create a mini European Parliament inside their schools. The Kemble Cluster (7 schools) have been providing specialist coaching in tennis and hockey. This also allows the children to mix with larger peer groups and take part in sporting festivals. The hockey coaching took place at The Royal Agricultural College and umpires were provided by Cirencester Kingshill School’s Junior Sports Leaders Course. Children’s skills and interest have been improved. Staff have picked up valuable ideas and techniques for teaching hockey and tennis. head@kemble.gloucs.sch.uk

The Patchwork Project (3 schools) was set up by three infants schools to provide a variety of multi-cultural / multi-discipline experiences for pupils, staff, parents and governors with a particular focus on Year 2. Visits, visiting specialists (e.g. artists and authors), joint INSET, inter-school visits have resulted in a wide range of experiences in the Arts for children who have participated with great enthusiasm. head@larkfield.gloucs.sch.uk

The Woolpack Cluster (4 schools) had an ambitious project to celebrate the local environment through the visual arts, music and literacy using a local venue (The Rococo Garden) and local artists. A music specialist was employed on an hourly basis. The project culminated in a cluster performance, exhibition and the production of a CD. The Brookdean Cluster (7 schools) is a new cluster which also employed a music specialist on an hourly basis. Other cultures were explored through bringing in specialists. Larger peer groups were taken to live theatre. A similar project involving dance followed. This cluster also felt that the project helped dispel local rivalries. head@joysgreen.gloucs.sch.uk

A Mid-Cotswold Cluster (4 schools) based round Coberley planned to address OFSTED issues concerning PE, music and multicultural education. This involved buying in appropriate specialists in both music and art. Cluster PE resources were purchased to be shared between the schools. While funds allowed specialist sports coaching was undertaken. The children designed stained glass windows which were manufactured professionally. head@coberley.gloucs.sch.uk

The Cotswold Cluster (3 schools) employed a music specialist and ICT resources to enhance music provision. Local musicians have also spent time in the schools and joint music INSET has taken place. A valuable spin off was non-contact time for class teachers. head@blockleyschool.gloucs.sch.uk

The South Cotswolds Cluster (5 schools) undertook a similar project with  music specialist, joint INSET, cluster music policy and purchase of music resources. Performing and composing has improved dramatically. head@meyseyhampton.gloucs.sch.uk

The Stroud Area Cluster (3 schools) planned to develop all aspects of the creative arts through a combined project involving Aboriginal culture and design. Cluster co-ordinators in art, dance and drama were identified and trained. The project expanded and developed over the three years to include a dance performance on a theme of King Arthur, acting workshops and creative play. head@randwick.gloucs.sch.uk

The Winchcombe Cluster (4 schools) financed joint activities for pupils and staff across a range of subjects. This enabled children to meet and work in larger peer groups and staff to counter the dangers of professional isolation. Activities which were beyond the budgets of individual schools became affordable. Several activities for KS2 took place at the secondary school. head@oakhill.gloucs.sch.uk

A Forest of Dean Cluster (8 schools) included a special school in its project to develop, produce and perform a celebration of art, music and dance through a ‘forests’ theme. Local artists, musicians and the local radio station were used and a package for the use of other schools was planned. school@deanhall.gloucs.sch.uk
