The
Cashes Green Cluster (2 schools) employed two
part time (0.5) teachers to allow the development
of a joint approach to monitoring teaching and learning
which would build on the schools’ already well-established.
The project was designed to promote a culture of shared
learning and leadership. Subject co-ordinators were
given non-contact time to develop their role with
a focus on the foundation subjects. The project also
involved KS2/KS3 liaison to ensure consistency and
continuity. head@cashesgreen-pri.gloucs.sch.uk
The
Tyndale Cluster (5 schools) employed a premises handyman – no more unblocking
of toilets etc. for busy small school heads! head@hillesley.gloucs.sch.uk
A
South Cotswolds Cluster (5 schools) undertook
a similar project. head@hatherop.gloucs.sch.uk
The
Dene Edge Cluster (4 schools) undertook joint
co-ordinator training in science. The focus was to
train co-ordinators in monitoring teaching and learning.
Training expertise was bought in. The scope of the
project was expanded to include some foundation subjects.
The cluster has concluded that buying in specific
training for the cluster is more beneficial than attending
general courses. head@walmorehill.glous.sch.uk
A
Stroud Area Cluster (4 schools) developed a cluster
approach to the monitoring & evaluation of teaching
and learning. Training and non-contact time were provided
for co-ordinators. As the project progressed ‘lead’
co-ordinators began to emerge. The training was undertaken
by cluster heads in each school and joint lesson observations
were made. head@sharpness.gloucs.sch.uk

The
Glosmatch Cluster (4 schools), a subunit of a
larger cluster, set out to develop strategies for
small school management. The heads share work loads
in document reading & writing and attending training
and briefings. Help from the LEA in setting up e-pages
has given the schools a fast and efficient way to
exchange information and organise their work sharing
strategies. A spin off has been networking between
secretaries. head@churcham.gloucs.sch.uk
A
Countywide Cluster ( 11 schools) purchased hardware
and relevant software to allow SENCOs to become more
effective in their role. head@st-marys-prestbury-inf.gloucs.sch.uk
A
Stroud Area Cluster (2 schools) has developed
a joint approach to monitoring teaching within the
two schools. This was undertaken with the aid of their
School Support Officer and involved analysing work
samples and attainment data, effective targeting of
areas for improvement and planning training opportunities.
Co-ordinators have worked with KS3 co-ordinators in
the local secondary school. head@callowell.gloucs.sch.uk
