Willersey C of E Primary International Link
I have recently returned from a very interesting and educationally rewarding trip to Kenya to meet the staff and children of our partner school Shamenei Primary School. The welcome was extremely warm and I was treated to a wonderful experience of working in the school. It is a mixture of wooden and concrete block buildings with some 450 children aged between 2 and 14.
The Kenyan government has recently brought in free compulsory education for all primary aged children although they have not invested in adequate teacher training. As a result classes tend to be large (I was in one with 87 children).
Whilst there, we were able to reach a partnership agreement and we have set up several projects between the two schools covering a range of subjects such as, favourite tales, our homes, trees, global warming and different recipes books.
As these links develop, I shall look forward to sharing some of the children’s work with the local community.
The links were developed through the Global Dimension Trust www.globaldimensiontrust.org
