| REFLECTIONS ON A RECENT OFSTED
INSPECTION LONGBOROUGH C of E
Inspectors appreciated :-
- Good organisation & presentation of work samples
– in folders, clearly labelled with names,
year groups, below, average, above
- List of documents with creation & review
dates - They didn’t look much further than
the list
- Subject Co-ordinators folders with similar formats
- Folders of assessed work, clearly labelled –
what it is, how often work is assessed, what you
do with the information
Inspectors :-
- were obviously under pressure re-time. Anything
that you can do to ease this was appreciated eg
flexibility.
- heard Y2 & Y6 readers initially. If these
show any weakness then other year groups heard.
- were rarely in a lesson for more than 30 minutes.
- gave brief feedback to individual teachers but
more fully to head each day.
- not too interested in lesson plans as long they
knew they existed.
Inspectors were most interested in:-
- Literacy, Numeracy, Science & ICT.
- Any issues raised in the last OFSTED –
looked for progress. Make sure any issues have been
fully addressed.
The Lay Inspector :-
- Required a lot of documentation – H &
S Policy, Risk Assessments, Safety Audit, Brochure,
2 years’ Reports to Governors, any policies
relating to Spiritual & Moral Dev., Worship
etc.,
- Transition arrangements for Rec/Y6.
They may ask awkward questions such as :-
- Who makes the decisions ( eg day to day, more
far-reaching or expensive )? Don’t forget
to mention governors/parents!
- How do you involve parents and children in day
to day target setting?
- What provision is made for part time staff to
plan jointly?
- Who contributes to the SIP? Are these contributions
formalised?
Good ideas :-
- Ensure that you have evidence of major projects
eg D & T week available
- Make sure that Subject Co-ordinators are confident
of the requirements of their role eg. INSET, Monitoring,
Leading Training, Resources, Documentation, Disseminating
good practice.
