Project Progress Report

Brief

  • To produce a website that will be a source of relevant and up to date material that will inform, support and inspire small schools and small school clusters.
  • The site must have two main functions: to provide a reference bank for documentation and to provide a forum for good ideas, news and reports of achievements.
  • It is important that the site is easily navigable and quick to download, providing a first stop for information for Heateachers and teachers in small schools.
  • Schools should have a significant input during development to ensure a focused, effective and useful site.

Design and Development

  • The website was commissioned for development in March 2000
  • Two Headteachers, one of whom is on the Support Group, were consulted informally about content and information gathering.
  • An initial prototype was produced for the Autumn Term, ready for discussion with the Small Schools Support Group.
  • At the October Support Group meeting a list of suggested categories and sub-categories was agreed.
  • After the meeting this information was used to construct a questionnaire that was distributed to all small schools in December 2001.
  • The results of the questionnaire were collated together and discussed at the February Support Group meeting.
  • It was decided that an LEA Officer, Headteacher and the Diocesan Director of Education would form a website sub-group in order to gather information that schools had indicated would be of great benefit to them.

Future Maintenance

  • A budget is in place to allow updates to the site through the year following launch.
  • At the end of this period the success of the site will be evaluated through questionnaires issued to small school head teachers.
