GWR Steam Railway.
As part of their centenary celebrations Toddington Primary School took a trip on the GWR steam railway from Toddington to Cheltenham. The day out included a picnic. The staff and children were dressed in Edwardian costume. 1906 was a significant year for the village of Toddington ; not only was the school founded in that year but the railway line opened. It ran from Stratford to Cheltenham and for several decades provided much needed public transport for the area before being closed in the 1970’s. In 1981 the line was purchased by a group of volunteers. Work began on restoring stations and relaying the track. It finally culminated in trains running from Toddington to Cheltenham Racecourse. It has proved to be a popular day out for thousands of local people and visitors to the Cotswolds. 2006 has been a triple celebration for Toddington; the centenary of the school and the original railway line and the twenty-fifth anniversary of the beginning of the restoration of the line.
