Our trip to Brecon - By Pippa Rust

The years 5 and 6 went to Brecon in Wales for a history trip. We stayed in Brecon's youth hostel for one night, doing different activities.

When we got there we were given lunch and got a chance to settle in and were told which rooms we were sleeping in. Then we played a picture quiz, where we had to find various things that we had pictures of. Next, we went for a tour of the grounds. When it started to snow we went in for warm refreshments. Finally, when it stopped snowing, we went out again for an archaeological dig.

We were given an hour to unpack until it was time for the murder mystery. The teachers played characters and we had to question them. In the end Charles and the Gardener did it, everyone said Charles did it so they got one point apart from the girls who got two points for guessing both murderers. After that we had a Victorian Banquet and parlour games and then we went to bed.

In the morning we had breakfast and went to the local Victorian museum and explored the various tasks we were given to do. We all shopped at the shop for our friends, family and ourselves until it was time to go home.

This particular venue based on a Victorian theme in a large Victorian house comes highly recommended by Toddington School. For more details : admin@toddington.gloucs.sch.uk For other venues/themes visit the Youth Hostel Association website YHA.org.uk
