Sonic Postcards Project

Willersey C of E Primary School is taking part in this initiative aimed at 9 – 14 year olds. It is concerned with the impact of sound on our lives and provides an opportunity for people to exchange information about their local environments.

The website provides a number of links and resources; from information about soundscape studies from around the world to specific curriculum links to help integrate the Postcards Project into other areas of teaching and learning and technical guidance on music software and hardware.

The aims of the project are for pupils to:-

  • gain new insight into their environment and the environments of others.
  • develop new skills in music making with technology.
  • develop their personal communication skills both with their peers and with adults other than teachers.

For teachers to:-

integrate their teaching of music and ICT to other curriculum subjects such as Geography, English, History and Citizenship for example.

  • achieve the specific skills needed to approach classroom music making using technology and the confidence to use these skills.
  • work with Sonic Arts Network to ensure e-learning facilities are accessible and that teachers have adequate training and skills to use this equipment.

For schools to:-

  • build an identity with their community and with other schools around the UK.
  • encourage and support cross-curricular teaching throughout the project.
  • Discover new approaches to learning through a range of partnerships.

Sonic Postcards involves sound artists visiting your school over the course of a half term and working with a single class of Key Stage 2 children.
